Time has come for Indians to remain inside their homes for next 21 days. The coming 21 days are very important and if we don't follow the lockdown, the nation could go behind by 21 years. Prime Minister made a reference from Ramayana and said that its time for Indian citizens to draw a Lakshman Rekha on their doorstep and make sure that they don't cross it.
The Prime Minister announced a nationwide lockdown for three weeks ie. 21 days lockdown in the entire nation, with all flight services suspended till March, 31st. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi began his speech by applauding Indians over Janta Curfew. He commended efforts of a billion people who went in to self-lockdown without use of any force.
The next part of his address however, was not in the same tone. The Prime Minister added that not just in India we are facing this problem. Many other countries like Italy and US are going through worse phases than us and from them we have learnt that only remedy to break the curse of this deadly virus is Social Distancing.

Prime Minister cited data from World Health Organisation (WHO), stating that a single infected person in matter of one week can spread this virus to at least 100 persons. The time to reach a lakh cases took 67 days, but only 11 days to double them up and just 4 days to triple it.
Prime Minister stated that the need of the hour is to break the contamination chain of this virus and only properly implemented lockdown can do it. India is currently at such a stage that our today will define our tomorrow. “Jaan Hai to Jahan hai”, he said. He said that the people should not be living in sense of fallacy that this virus will not harm me but only old people. If it doesn’t harm you, it makes you a carrier and may harm your loved ones, threads of whose life is in your hands, so be home.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told that the central government had dedicated 15000 crores rupees to fight the curse of the corona virus. The essential services will continue and the government will ensure that. The number of all sorts of essential equipment like PPEs, isolation wards, ICU Beds, ventilators are being increased at an alarming pace with priority, to deal with the present crisis.
Prime Minister reiterated that currently every government state or centre should have one priority i.e. health care. Every citizen should have one primary duty, i.e. Social Distancing. Please think about those who go out in this environment of risk, so that you are safe. Please think about Paramedics, Armed Forces, Policemen, cleaners, healthcare workers, Media personnel, Doctors who are working day and night to fight this menace. Prime Minister acknowledged their hard work and appealed citizens to respect and applaud efforts of all such personnel.
With heavy heart, Prime Minister told that the nation’s economy will pay a very hefty price for the upcoming lockdown, but his first priority is health and well being of citizens of India. With folded hands, Prime Minister requested the Indian populace to strictly be home during the 21 days lockdown period.
