COVID-19: No Relaxation to Lockdown in Delhi says Kejriwal, blames Jamat

Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Keriwal, in a press conference on Sunday announced that Delhi government has decided against any relaxation in Lockdown measures amid rise in COVID-19 cases in the national capital. “After assessing the prevailing situation in Delhi, we have decided not to permit any relaxation of the Lockdown, as of now" he said.

Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal blamed Tablighi Jamat and said that Delhi had to suffer maximum due to Tablighi Jamat event. Yesterday 736 samples were tested and 186 samples were found to be positive. Which are very huge, approximating about 25% of the tested samples. The most dangerous and alarming thing is that, all of the 186 people tested positive were asymptomatic ( having no symptoms such as Fever, Cough, Breathing problem etc). These people did not know that they were acting as carriers for the deadly novel corona virus. This is more dangerous because they might have spread COVID-19 to many and there is a dread that many other may be doing the same.

"One among the positive has informed that he was volunteering in distribution of food at one of the government run food centers". CM added that, "we have ordered to do Rapid-testing of all people who used to come to that food center (Assuming same people come daily). Also all the volunteers of all food centers will go through Rapid testing, which is starting today with 42000 Rapid Testing kits."

Mr. Kejriwal added that, "COVID-19 has started to spread in Delhi. The number of containment zones in Delhi have increased to 77, where operation shield is being implemented. Random testing was done in containment zones, some zones where people followed the rules have not reported any new cases. However some containment zones where people violated social distancing, new cases have emerged. One such case is of Jahangir Puri, where 2 members of one family were found COVID-19 positive."

CM also said that, "COVID-19 is spreading fast but is under control. It is worrisome, but we need to have patience to control it. Today out of total 1893 cases in Delhi 26 are in ICU, 6 are on Ventilator and 43 people have lost their lives due to the virus". CM also talked about the need of lockdown and mentioned that, "If Lockdown was not there, there would have been a lot more cases and we would have ran short of ICUs and Ventilators, like in USA, Spain, Italy etc".

CM also stressed on the fact that, "being the national capital has affected Delhi a lot. Delhi has 2% of the total population of India and about 12% of COVID-19 cases of country are from Delhi. Being a capital Delhi has to fight toughest war from COVID-19". CM also mentioned the hand of international travelers and Delhi Markaz case in increasing the COVID-19 cases in Delhi.

CM said that, "I wanted to give some relaxations since children are unable to go to schools and people are finding hard to survive due to the inability to earn their livelihoods. But if we relax the restrictions and situation worsens, then we won't be able to forgive ourselves. Considering all this, we think we should have the same restrictions as of now in the following days. We have decided not to relax any restrictions for now. We will review the situation after one week and any decision regarding relaxation will be made only after the review meeting which will be held after 1 week".

Later on Mr Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that “After assessing the prevailing situation in Delhi, we have decided not to permit any relaxation of the lockdown as of now”.
