Out of total 27 patients, 25 have been cured of infection and 15 have been discharged from the hospital. By now, total population in the district has been screened thrice. When the cases in the country are touching 8,000 mark, the success of 'Bhilwara model' is a silver lining in breaking the transmission chain of COVID-19.

When the entire country is facing challenges in containing the COVID-19 Pandemic, Bhilwara has stood among the exceptions. From the worst affected district in Rajasthan, it has emerged as a model for an all-in fight against the deadly virus. The ruthless containment model has been successful in breaking the virus transmission chain effectively.
The first case of COVID-19 in Bhilwara was reported from the Brijesh Banger Memorial hospital, where a doctor was found positive of COVID-19. The number of cases shot up very quickly with positive cases coming from all around the medical fraternity including the hospital staff and patients.
From zero positive cases on March 1st to 26 cases on March 30th, Bhilwara was on the verge of a major outbreak. But due to superb administration from the district authorities, it has been ensured that Bhilwara reported only one new positive case of COVID-19 since April 3,2020. Now, out of total 27 patients, 25 have been cured of infection and 15 have been discharged from the hospital. Only one positive case of a 47-year-old school teacher is a lone positive case in the district under treatment.
The District collector, Rajendra Bhatt imposed curfew on the same day the first case was reported and sealed the borders of the district. They defined a containment zone of 1 km from the epicenter (the private hospital with positive cases) and a buffer zone of 3 kms. More than 5000 people were consulted from the hospital and they a population of about 24 lakhs in the district have been screened thermally. Within two days the authorities put about 6000 people in isolation to break the chain of novel Corona virus. On April 3, 2020, the administration stopped even the essential services and ensured door to door delivery of essentials to the people.
The administration acquired 1,541 rooms of 27 hotels, resorts etc. and converted them into isolation centers along with 14400 quarantine beds from 22 institutions and hostels to be ready for any emergency situation. “No shop, dairy, or medical store will be open. If people want something, they will directly call us, whether it is medicine, food or anything else. For this, at least 4-5 control rooms of several departments are being operated and we are fulfilling demands. It is a necessary step to control the outbreak and bring out a total covid-19-free Bhilwara in the coming few days," informed Bhatt.
The district administration put the Corona Captains (SDMs) and Corona Fighters (AHSA workers and volunteers) into action, which followed daily reports on screening to check community spread. By now, total population in the district has been screened thrice. The total containment meant that all essential goods were transported to people at their door step, which was fruitful to break the Corona Virus transmission chain.
The cabinet secretary of India has praised the Bhilwara model of containment. The Centre is looking upon the states to follow this model. Even the Rajasthan government’s own Jaipur model has failed badly. The lesson is to be taken that to break the chain of the virus, brutal steps need to be taken at most micro levels, for the only way against COVID-19 is containment and Bhilwara administration has proven the same with their meticulous strategies and implementation. When the cases in the country are touching 8,000 mark, the success of 'Bhilwara model' is a silver lining in breaking the transmission chain of COVID-19.
